Recently, as the Hanggongzhuan 801 ship drove the first steel pipe pile to the design elevation, the wharf project of the Shanghai LNG Front Expansion Project officially started. The wharf construction project will build a new 150,000-ton dedicated berth with a designed throughput of 6 million tons/year. It is expected to be able to accommodate 150,000 to 180,000 cubic meters of LNG transport ships. The construction of the project is of great significance. The wharf project adopts a butterfly layout, consisting of a working platform, a main approach bridge, a torch platform, 6 berthing piers and 6 mooring piers, etc. The total construction period of the project is 596 days.
According to the staff of Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, the construction site of the project is located in the shallow waters between the existing LNG terminal and oil storage and transportation terminal on both sides. The construction waters are narrow and close to the main navigation channel of Yangshan Deepwater Port with a complex navigation environment. The construction project also involves pile-driving ships, crane ships and material transport ships with different routes and long voyages. The construction is difficult and the safety risks are high.

During the construction, the total number of piles sunk in the project was more than 300 steel pipe piles, with a pile diameter of 1~1.5m and a pile depth of 46~67m.
